Offering young adults support towards a career of their choice.

At Mentoring 2 Work (M2W), it was all about creating an individual, unique pathway for our participants into employment, through the guidance of a mentor with mature industry experience and real-world networks.

For young adults between 18 and 25 across the Perth North metro area, receiving a Centrelink payment and looking for work, we provided the opportunity to co-create a career map to work on and gain continuing support along their journey with a mentor into worthwhile and secure employment. Because of this tailored approach, M2W was facilitated without an agenda, fixed deadlines or pre-determined trajectories. Each young adult’s journey through the program was unique to them, their circumstances and preferences.

For mentors, who were volunteering their time, expertise and knowledge, it was important that they always felt supported and engaged by the M2W team and fellow mentors, so they were provided with ongoing networking opportunities through online forums and dedicated networking events as well as professional development offerings.

Because Mentoring 2 Work is a funded research program for the Department of Social Services, it will come to an end on June 30, 2020 and, given the nominal 6-month duration of the program, we are no longer accepting new participants (young adults and mentors).
